Interview with Kevin Waldron of KKG

Name:  Kevin Waldron
Date of Birth: 31/12/1975
Height: 5ft 11’’
Weight:  13.5 stone ,84 kgs
Home Club: Ballyhaunis
County: Mayo

Notable Sporting Achievements: Been the odd one here and there, finally winning the championship in 2004 after years of trying.

County: Christ played for years and can’t remember winning too many games. Got a couple of man of the matches though.

Toughest Opponent
: Too many to mention, but think the biggest would have to be trying to get a truthful word from Tom Roche (manager) and trying to get Colm Foody to keep his hands down and walk away from trouble. Maybe trying to tell Karl Scanlon to keep quiet or getting Stephen Sheehan to do another lap / sprint. I could go on.

Hobbies: Sleeping and doing nothing

Favourite Position:  13, 14, 15, Anywhere in the forward line, I love seeing my name in the papers with big score lines attached

Favourite Players: None really since Willie Joe retired. I watch a lot of Rugby now.

Influences on your career:  Da ould fella , Paddy

The High Point of your career to date:  Winning the championship and a few things at home

Biggest Disappointments
: There has been a few too many, losing the championship Semi in 2002 was brutal. We should have won that year. Being injured so much. Got a call from (John Maughan manager Mayo)asking would I come home to play a game and I told him I couldn’t as the KKG were playing that day in a league Semi, think we won by about 15 pts. Got another call a week or 2 later and got injured a day before the game. Waste of time.

The moral of the story… If you ever get a chance take it!!

Ways of improving the game: 6 yellow cards before a red one, marks from kick-outs, cut out the solo and the hop and take as many steps as you like.

Dislikes about the GAA: None

Person you would most like to meet:  Any ref who ever sent me off to ask why…cos I know I didn’t deserve it.

Pet Hates: Smoking and being late

Favourite Music: Saw doctors

Favourite Film: Brave Heart

Ideal Date: A fine woman from Offaly:

How would you like to be remembered? A man who just got the ball and never missed a scoring chance.
